Multi-family Housing - Cathedral Art Apartments
Project Description
Kem-Tec designed a 4 story, mixed-use apartment building along Woodward Avenue, right across the street from the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Cathedral Art Apartments has 53 2-bedroom units, with commercial space on the first floor. Since this project is located along Woodward Avenue, it falls under the City of Detroit’s Main Street Overlay Area. This meant we had to follow specific requirements to build in this area, such as 60% of the street level and 40% upper-level façade needed to be glass, or 80% of the facade needed to be masonry, stone or porcelain. To accommodate these requirements, 7’ tall windows were installed in the units, and 10’ tall storefront windows were installed for the commercial units and community space. The building is made up of burnished block, brick and metal panels. This project was funded by Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC).
